painful cramping and curling of feet

Symptoms include VERY painful, uncontrollable cramping of BOTH feet simultaneously - so intense that it's nearly impossible to 'walk it out' and I end up in tears, waiting for it to pass.

Usually I counter cramping by opposing stretches but the last two episodes didn't respond to those efforts, prompting thoughts of potential arthritis or something unknown.

Does this intensity sound reasonable? Could age be a factor? (42) Both times it has happened as I was laying down to sleep, but once it happened in the middle of a barbeque. I removed my shoes (sneakers) and ate a banana, advised by a guest, who is an RN, that I was lacking potassium.

Other than buying stock in island fruit, any thoughts for avoiding future episodes, please?
